The Indian National Chessboxing Championship were held in the AC Indoor Stadium in Kolkata from 13th until 15th of January 2013. Overall 180 fighter from 10 states came together and gave each other the honor.

It was the state of Andhra Pradesh that won most medals; nine gold, three silver and five bronze medals. It was a stunning display of the team selected and trained by coach Omkar Yadav at his boxing hall at the Lal Bahadur Stadium.

The World Chess Boxing Organisation (WCBO), artist Enki Bilal, and Parisian auction house Artcurial presented an exclusive chessboxing evening in Paris.

On February 1st 2013, Serbian artist Enki Bilal unveiled his latest painting. The painting that Bilal created for the WCBO will be auctioned by the Parisian auction house Artcurial on February 23rd 2013. The proceeds will be Enki Bilal’s investment into the newly-founded marketing agency of the World Chess Boxing Organisation.

Former light-heavyweight world champion “Anti-Terror“ Frank Stoldt from Berlin’s chessboxing club CBCB faced off with the reigning light-heavyweight World Champion Leonid “Granit“ Chernobaev from Belarus. Both fighters have fought over 50 amateur boxing bouts and boast chess ELO-ratings of over 2000. It was a battle of generations. Frank Stoldt fought bravely but the youngster Leonid won in the seventh round by checkmate.

English actress, Charlotte Rampling and French chess commentator Grand Master Jean-Luc Chabanon guided the audience through the evening. Among the public, another very special guest was spotted; the beautiful french actress Juliette Binoche.


The Land of the tiger is new member of the World Chess Boxing Organisation. Chessboxing continues to grow and is now reaching to the far east.

Based in Shiraz, in the Fars province, the Iranian Chess Boxing Organisation (ICBO) will spread chess boxing and it`s philosophy to Persia. Fereidoun Pouya president of the ICBO has a kickboxing background and is known as an avid chess player.
